Noida has been luring considerable number of celebrities to its chest. The latest name added to the celebrity list is the Dronacharya awardee Pullela Gopichand. However, he won’t be buying any residential apartments. The Chief national coach of Indian badminton team is all set to open Badminton Academy at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gopichand.
The 30,000 sq ft sports academy will be managed by Sportzlive, a sports management company. It includes eight badminton courts and an indoor stadium capable of hosting 4,300 people. The academy will be the first by Gopichand in North India and is expected to be open in October. “By opening up the academy in Greater Noida, the intention is to promote badminton culture in this part of the country” said the badminton maestro. He also added that it will be modeled on the excellence center built in Hyderabad. Gopichand already has sports academies established at Gwalior, Hyderabad and Vadodara.
