The government promised to construct around 1.2 crore houses by 2022, under the PMAY (U) for all.
In urban areas, the construction of 45.86 lakh houses has been approved by the BJP-led government since they came into power in 2014. As per the official data, if we compare to the sanctioned in the UPA government’s 10-year tenure, the recording has increased by around 240 percent.
During the UPA I and II under to schemes, i.e. Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) around 13.45 lakh houses was approved, according to the housing and urban affairs ministry data. However, since the NDA government came into power in 2014 and already approved and sanctioned 45.86 lakh from around 1.2 crore houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (urban).
According to the data, the total sum of Rs 20,303 crores for construction of 13.45 lakh houses for poor were approved by the UPA government, while Rs 70,716 crores for construction of sanctioned 45.86 lakh houses has been approved by now.
The response for the PMAY (urban) has been great by now as the NDA government has succeeded in approving and sanctioning of 45.86 lakh houses for poor. It seems that the scheme was a “roaring success” and the government will positively achieve the aim of providing houses before 2022 said housing and Urban Affairs minister.
