The long awaited widening works of NH-24 will finally commence from July 2016, said the Union Minister General VK Singh said on Wednesday. The widening works will be completed in three phases for which three separate tender processes have been started. The widening works of first corridor from Delhi-UP Gate stretch (8.7 km), then from UP Gate to Dasna (19.3 km) to the final portion from Dasna to Hapur (22.3 km) will simultaneously progress, said Singh during a meeting. It was on December 31, 2015 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the widening of NH-24. Since the tender dates were postponed several times, the project suffered a delay of nearly five months.
The delay is likely to make the project miss the 30-month deadline. However, the project is implemented through hybrid annuity a public private partnership (PPP) model to finish the proposed work within the estimated time.
