While the second list is in queue to arrive in June, NDA Government has decided to receive more impetus for their Smart City programme. Centre has invited the ambassadors of all the 150 missions operating in India for an investment summit on May 19, 2016. Centre would pitch projects worth Rs 50, 560 crores spread across 20 cities selected in the first phase of Smart City programme.
The day long summit is going to be held in Taj Mansingh Hotel near Khan Market, India Gate. Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu would cut the ribbon ceremony and invite countries for investments opportunities in India. The event will witness presentations on various investment aspects prepared by Urban Development Ministry and also contributions from State Governments.
Representatives from USA, Spain, South Korea, United Kingdom, France and Japan will give their presentations regarding their interest, opportunities and concerns on engaging in business with the community. Besides the first 20 cities selected, Centre might also consider another 23 cities which have submitted their re-worked plans. The final list would be released by Centre before the summit.
The event highlights the Union Ministry’s urge to attract more international players to boost businesses and rightly so. USA and France have already agreed to develop three Smart Cities each in India. Smart Cities like Vishakhapatnam, Ajmer and Allahabad will be developed in assistance with USA. While Chandigarh, Nagpur and Puducherry will be aided by France to be developed as Smart Cities.
